Sports – Injuries & Performance
Your Story:
You were out for a run, mid-match, or in the gym when something didn’t feel right—a sudden pull, a sharp pain, or a lingering ache that won’t go away. Maybe you’ve been pushing through it, hoping it’ll settle, but now it’s affecting your performance or keeping you off the pitch. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a competitive athlete, you want to get back to doing what you love—safely and confidently.
What’s Going On?
Sports physiotherapy focuses on injuries related to physical activity, from acute strains to overuse issues. These injuries often involve muscles, tendons, ligaments, or joints, and can result from poor mechanics, fatigue, or inadequate recovery. Our goal is not just to treat the injury, but to identify the root cause, restore full function, and reduce the risk of re-injury.
We’re proud to support local athletes, including many from Kill GAA club, helping them stay strong, recover quickly, and return to play with confidence.
Common Conditions We Treat
Hamstring Strain
You sprinted or stretched too far and felt a sharp pull in the back of your thigh. Now it’s sore to walk or bend. Treatment focuses on reducing pain, restoring flexibility, and progressive loading to rebuild strength.
Ankle Sprain
You rolled your ankle during a game or on uneven ground. It’s swollen and sore, and you’re nervous about putting weight on it. Rehab includes swelling control, balance retraining, and return-to-play testing.
Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Pain)
You feel a dull ache around or behind your kneecap, especially after running or stairs. This is often due to muscle imbalances or poor tracking of the kneecap. Treatment includes strengthening, taping, and movement retraining.
Tennis/Golfer’s Elbow
You’ve developed pain on the inside or outside of your elbow from repetitive gripping or lifting. This is a form of tendinopathy, and responds well to load management, manual therapy, and eccentric strengthening.
Shin Splints
You’ve started a new training block or increased your mileage, and now your shins ache with every step. This is often due to overload or poor footwear, and is treated with load modification, soft tissue release, and biomechanical correction.
Return to Sport After Injury
You’ve recovered from an injury but aren’t sure if you’re ready to go back. We offer sport-specific rehab, fitness testing, and movement screening to make sure you return stronger and more resilient.
